What matters most?

Sometimes the choice you have to make is between taking care of yourself and meeting other peoples expectations. Nobody wants to be considered a let down which is why often people end up putting themselves aside and focusing more on other people. But you shouldn't treat yourself as though you don't matter, you matter just … Continue reading What matters most? →

It’s not that important

Sometimes things that aren't that important get dressed up to be the most important thing in the world. You react by getting overwhelmed and stressed. This effects you're sleep, general mood and how you interact with others. As much as you want to feel good within you're body, you can't help but sacrifice that for … Continue reading It’s not that important →

What are you willing to sacrifice?

Sometimes you reach a point in life where you need to make a sacrifice. What are you willing to give up in order to reach your goal? And are you willing to give up the right things? Maybe you need more time to work on your book and so you decide to give up your … Continue reading What are you willing to sacrifice? →

Don’t check the stats

It's easy to fall into thinking that having access to and analysing the numbers will improve your work. But sometimes it just makes you miserable. When you sacrifice what you want to do with what will make the numbers go up you're less likely to be satisfied with the work you produce. If you focus … Continue reading Don’t check the stats →

Giving the people what they want

A few days ago, I wrote a post that did well numbers wise and I knew it would. It was the kind of thing that people like to read whilst also being useful. I don't advocate for writing for people as you'll never find your own voice or style that way. But in my previous … Continue reading Giving the people what they want →

The path of most resistance

Most of us have things that we want to achieve in this life and some of us are willing to work extremely hard for what we want. We'll sacrifice a lot of things and even go through periods or excessive stress or discomfort in order to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. … Continue reading The path of most resistance →

A bad version of a good thing

Arizona Birkenstocks are a classic sandal, there is no doubt about it. They're ergonomic footwear designed to mould to the shape of your foot over time. There around  £60 which is not particularly expensive for a good quality pair of sandals. However, when there are similar versions for a quarter of the price it can … Continue reading A bad version of a good thing →

Reading back through these posts I'm reminded of the situations that inspired me to write them. I love that my most popular post from February 2022 was my valentines day post. Hoping to be back posting a little bit more this year, starting with a roundup of my most popular posts from each month of 2022. I was first introduced to Neuro-Linguistic Programming around 6 years ago when I had a conversation with a life coach. I'd never even heard of a life coach prior to this but I remember her speaking about NLP and I was really intrigued. A little while after I bought this book. It opened me up to different ways of thinking, some of which felt quite radical at the time but are very normal to me now. After almost 3 years of daily blogging, here are a few things that I found helpful. Some thoughts I had after a week of struggling to write. For me, looking back on old poems is like looking through a photo album. I write poems about life but also the people that have impacted me in some way. Years later, I can look back and remember those moments which I think is pretty special. The poems I have are from the past 8 years and so some of the people I've written about are no longer in my life but I love that I'm able to capture the memories in words. So this is something quite relevant in my life at the moment. We often confuse what we're thinking about with what's important which is only sometimes true. You might find yourself consumed with thoughts of a time you felt embarrassed and end up thinking that it really matters. If you're not sure whether something is important, ask yourself whether it matters in the grand scheme of life and death. More often than not, the answer is no. We often put so much pressure on ourselves to be simple and live simple lives (in terms of having everything go to plan). The truth is people are complex and so is life but that isn't a bad thing.
