One of the easiest things you can do is to be kind.
It can come in many forms but I think it is often the smallest things that have the most impact.
It can be easy to think that you need to go above and beyond and make some kind of grand gesture but that’s not the case.
Kind is described as ‘having or showing a friendly, generous, and considerate nature’.
It could come in the form of something small like smiling at a stranger, offering to help someone or even just listening.
You don’t need to be kind because you want something in return, do it because you like the type of world that kindness creates, lead by example.
In the past couple of weeks you’ve probably seen things happen that you would have once considered bad. Yet the way these events have unfolded, these acts are almost worthy of praise.
When you look at an incident in isolation, it’s easy to make a judgement about what is wrong or right, what should or shouldn’t happen and if something is good or bad. It’s something we do quite often.
We go around making assumptions based on limited information ignoring the fact that we don’t know the full story because it’s fun to fill in the gaps. But also because sometimes the full story takes more time and effort than we are willing to give.
It’s much easier to assume that someone is wrong than it is to consider the why behind their actions. This may not have any real impact in the moment however, in the long run simply choosing the easiest thought path can have negative results.
So, it might be worth slowing down, looking at the bigger picture, getting informed and then making a judgment based on much more than surface level understanding.
We’re constantly making decisions each day. Some are small scale like toast or cereal for breakfast, whilst others can have more of an impact.
It’s easy to go back and forth when you have multiple options and are intent on picking the ‘right one’.
But it’s often the act of picking that’s more important than what you actually pick.
If you struggle to make decisions, you don’t need to get better at being right, you need to work on being more decisive.
I was taking a walk on my lunch break one afternoon when I saw someone I kind of hoped to never see again, or at least I thought I saw them.
To my surprise in that moment I felt a change in my body, a feeling of discomfort. As I kept walking, I began to think about how much things have the ability to move us.
How secure are we in ourselves that everyday moments don’t greatly impact us?
Are we walking around and carrying this mental practice of only feeling good when certain things are happening?
I think it’s good to really pay attention to how your body physically feels as you go through daily life. Often we end up holding onto little things and carrying them in our bodies which can eventually lead to physical ailments.
So, just pay attention and when stuff comes up find a way to shake it off and not allow it to impact your day.
