7 uses for a blank notebook

There’s not a doubt in my mind that you have at least one blank notebook lying around somewhere.

So here are 7 possible options for what to do with it:

A journal– the old fashioned sort where you write about your day, your life, thoughts and experiences.

Book notes – When I read books, I like to make notes on the things that interest me. It could be quotes, concepts or people that have been referenced. These notes then become something i can refer back to for my own research and writing. The purpose is not to create a summary of the book but to simply pick out the things that personally resonate.

Journal prompts – It can be helpful to write with a prompt instead of just letting the words pour out. Maybe you answer the question ‘what would improve your day?’ or ‘where would you like to be in 10 years time?’ Journal prompts are a great way to get yourself thinking deeply about the things that often get overlooked.

Poetry – I used to write a lot of poetry in my teen years, it was the typical awful poetry that perfectly captured how I felt. At the time I thought some of it was good but with age I realise I was being somewhat optimistic.

To-do lists – I’ve written a few posts about to-do lists. I find them useful for keeping track of tasks that may otherwise get forgotten. They also provide a document of what I’ve done for the day or week.

Making plans – As much as I may use my phone or laptop to write things down. I still love making plans on paper. It’s nice having a little notebook dedicated to travel, career or creative plans.

Class notes – I’m in a couple of online communities that have classes/talks every month and although I can go back and rewatch them, I like making notes as I watch. It helps keep me engaged and stops me having it play in the back ground whilst I work on other tasks.
