Imagine bearing the weight of all that is difficult and challenging in your life on your shoulders all at once. Then, imagine having to go out into the world with that load and pretend that everything is fine.
After a while the load becomes too much to bear and you reach a point where you need to step back, to withdraw and retreat.
That is the most loving thing that you can do for yourself.
When you don’t feel okay and you don’t feel well (as in your overall wellbeing is in poor condition), you need to take care of yourself.
Being in situations where you can’t fully honour and accept where you’re at only makes things worse.
When you’re burdened by challenges you need to replenish and care for yourself rather than constantly be in situations that require you to put on an act and pretend you’re okay.
That can be a a difficult lesson to learn when you struggle with being vulnerable or want to be seen as someone who always has it together.
If you feel a resistance towards something, it might simply be that you don’t want to do it.
And you don’t have to.
There will always be a time when working through it is an option and possibly the best choice to make. However, it’s perfectly okay to reach a point where you say ‘no’ and decide that certain challenges aren’t worth taking on.
Some things are worth waiting for but sometimes you’re better off just calling it quits and moving on to something else.
Just because you can wait, doesnt mean that you should.
What do you do when you’re speaking and nobody is listening?
Do you speak louder and hope that people start to pay attention, do you give up or do you find another way to overcome being ignored?
Being ignored is difficult. It can hurt your feelings, effect your self-esteem and lead you to feel frustrated.
If you’re already being ignored speaking louder might work but it might just lead to more of the same. Giving up sometimes feels like the best option, especially when you’re tired of trying to be heard. But when you decide to give up, the problem you were trying to speak up about still remains.
And then you have the last option, find another way. This might take more time and more effort but in the end it’ll be worth it. When you find a way to overcome a difficult situation it reminds you of your perseverance and ability to overcome challenges.
There comes a time when you must come to a healing place.
Some say they feel connected and at peace by the ocean and for others it’s being among the plants and trees.
Life can be challenging, emotions can be draining.
It’s hard to go on with your normal day to day life when your troubles are weighing you down.
Maybe you don’t even realise you need a break, that your body and mind have had enough.
And then suddenly you find yourself called to a place that is peaceful and calm. Upon arrival, you relax your shoulders and audibly exhale. You had no idea how much you needed to be there.
You know the feeling you get when you read something that resonates. You feel seen, you feel heard and you feel connected, often to a complete stranger.
But this person was able to form something that encapsulates a feeling or a moment from your life. It can often serve as a reminder that we’re not so different or as separate from each other as we sometimes end up believing.
If you can be moved by words written 200 years ago then our problems, challenges and experiences aren’t so unique to us, there are plenty of other people that know what it’s like. In my teenage years I liked to beelive that somehow the author knew that I’d need to read their words, almost as if they wrote them just for me. Of course that wasn’t the case but it was a nice thought at the time.
I’ve held on to that idea but allowed it to evolve a little. As someone who writes and shares their words, I never write with a particular person in mind but I know that people are often drawn to read about things they can relate to.
I’ve read great words that have moved me and so I hope to do the same. I guess it’s sort of like taking one and passing it on.
‘I wrote this for you because of what they wrote for me.’
But not everyone is doing the work and not everyone understands.
You’ll often find that the ones that are talking the most are those that do that least.
When it comes to criticism, it is so important not to take on the thoughts and opinions of the wrong people. When you’re working on something and it isn’t going well it can result in your sense of self and confidence being reduced. When this happens you’re likely to find yourself more susceptible to take on the criticism of others.
Criticism can be useful, in fact incredibly helpful when it’s from the right people. However, when it’s from the wrong people, it can be dangerous. Suddenly you’re taking on thoughts from a stranger who has no real idea about the work you do and what it takes to overcome the challenges you’re facing.
