You’ve heard them, I’ve heard them and sometimes i even write them.
But the truth is now is really as good a time as any.
If you think something is worth putting off and doing later instead, ask yourself why.
Do you genuinely have more work to do behind the scenes. More planning, learning and preparing.
Or are you using it as an excuse to hide.
You don’t have to wait until you’re perfect to start putting stuff out out there, learn to see the beauty in your growth.
You say you’ll do it later but later may never come, so why not do it now?

So many of us want to be successful or achieve certain goals but what are we actually doing about it.
You might think you need another personal development, business or self-help book. Another conference, podcast episode or online course.
When you’re consuming with the goal of applying it to your own work, projects or goals it might be useful to check in every now and then and ask yourself ‘Is this helping me reach my goal?’
If the answer is no then stop trying to collect as much information as possible and start doing whatever your thing is.
It’s easy to think that more is always better but if you’re not doing anything with the information, what’s the point?
I think for some people fear comes into play. They say ‘I’ll start when I know more about it’ but there will always be something new to learn.
I think a pretty good approach is to just start and keep learning as you go. It might be scary but I bet you it will be worth it.
What happened to all those plans you made?
Starting is always exciting and finishing is always the aim. But somehow you let stuff get in the way of your plans.
You focused too much on the problems instead of how to make things happens.
You used your free time passively and felt like you needed more hours in the day.
You ran out of steam.
You listened to that person who said it wouldn’t work.
You lost faith in the plan.
You got stick and didn’t push through.
If your plans are often ending up unfinished you might want to figure out why. You might want to slow down and not get carried away with the joy of starting something new.
You might want to learn to stick things out until the end because some things are worth finishing.
It always feels good to start projects and make plans (at least it does for me anyway).
But what’s the use in making plans if you don’t follow through.
That really good idea you have could actually be something in the physical reality if you’re willing to bring it to life.
To want and do nothing is of no real use.
It creates a cycle of excitement at the possibility and disappointment at the outcome of nothingness.
Everyone has plans whether its passing thoughts or things you dedicate your daydreams to but if you really want the plan to become part of your reality then you kinda have to do something about it.
Talking is good but doing is better. Lazy Daisy is more than just a strange song by George Clinton or a pair of words that rhyme it’s a phrase that perfectly sums up a trap that so many of us fall into.
Wanting to start new projects, move to a new house, get a new job, take an evening class, learn to drive, visit a friend, exercise, take a holiday or even meditate.
We live in an era of fake busy where it can feel like you have no free time to do the things you want to do. Or maybe, you just can’t be bothered to do them.
It’s much easier to dedicate your evenings to Netflix than it is to dedicate your evenings to yourself. The latter requires much more effort but it is also significantly more valuable.
Don’t get caught in tapping, swiping and scrolling all day pretending that you’re busy when really you might just need to plug out, put your phone down and stop being a Lazy Daisy.
Implementing good habits into your life can be difficult and so you might be put off from making changes in your life.
However the simple thing that might not have occurred to you is that you can try to make a good habit easier to keep up with.
It could be as easy as placing a glass of water at your bedside every night and carrying a refillable bottle with you where ever you go.
Downloading a guided meditation that you can listen to offline and setting your morning alarm with a note that reads ‘meditation time’ as a prompt.
Creating an evening ritual of preparing lunch for the next day whilst listening to a podcast at a set time daily.
Think about how you can arrange your day to make the habit you want to start practicing a seamless part of your routine.
Once you do that you’ll notice things get a little easier as long as you’re committed and willing to try.
We often know exactly what needs to be done but for various reasons find ways to try and get around doing it.
But eventually we find ourselves back where we started knowing that all we need to do is take the first step.
It might feel like the most terrifying the world. You might end up so anxious that the voice in your head is telling you ‘don’t do it, stick with what you know’.
All you can really do is ignore that voice because as soon as you take that first step you realise there was no truth to the thoughts of your anxious mind.
There’s that Chinese proverb that goes something like, ‘the longest journey starts with a single step’
And where better to start than step one.
Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by all the things that I could be doing that I just don’t’t know where to start. And so I do nothing and then get frustrated at the time I’ve wasted.
It’s not what I would call laziness because I’m often fine once I get started. Instead, it’s this feeling of ‘Where do I begin?’ I think it also is one of things where I want to do a big thing rather than loads of little tasks but I forget that doing all the small things will have a big impact.
And so I suppose the advice I’d give to anyone else that gets this feeling is to just start.
Then keep going.
