Three things that make content worth paying for

When I think of the content I’ve paid a subscription for there are a few key things that helped draw me in. In this context I’m focusing solely on content from online creators such as bloggers, podcasters and youtubers.

1. There is value in their free content

There are people whose tweets, blog posts, podcast episodes and Instagram content has helped inspired change in my life. And so if they’re offering more of that behind a paywall, I’d be willing to pay because I already value what they provide for free.

        2. You want what they’re offering

Many people will share tweets or Instagram posts but those who want more in-depth information have to pay for it. This can help keep things sacred and creates a space where you full offering is shared only with those that have a genuine interest.

This idea works both ways, sometimes as a consumer you’re more than content with what’s freely available. For example, podcasters offering visuals of the episodes isn’t going to be wanted by someone who listens on their morning walk. and the extra videos or podcast or newsletter is more than you can keep up with.

        3. The cost feels worth it

Individual subscriptions might not be expensive, with many starting at a price equivalent to a large coffee. However, many operate with a tier system and the top tier can cost the same as amazon prime, which gives you access to so much more. Plus you have to factor in that the individual costs quickly add up, you can easily end up spending an extra £30 a month which could instead be added to savings or used towards a dinner with friends.

On the flipside, if someone offers content that is aligned with your current path, the cost will feel worth it because it’s helping you progress in the direction you’re going down anyway. In this case, it often feels worth it to spend the money instead of saving it.
