Forgotten dreams

What happened to those dreams off yours, those dreams you had to make, see and do?

When did you forget about the plans you made and what exactly are you doing now?

Everybody has a dream.

Whether it’s something you once worked towards and gave up on or merely that thing you think about as a form of escapism from your reality.

But sometimes we allow our circumstances to crush our dreams and suddenly we’ve forgotten all about what we really wanted. A dream is so much more more than a dream, it motivates us, guides us through daily life and gives us purpose.

Think of your forgotten dream as a neglected plant, now might be the perfect time to tend to it.

Checking in with your dream life

When was the last time you checked in with your dream life.

As in checked to see if you’re moving any closer to the things you want or say you want from life.

More importantly, do you know what you need to do in order to get there?

It could be learning a skill, saving money or building your confidence.

If you’re not making the effort to do what needs to be done then you can’t be disappointed when things don’t magically fall into place.

Something that I believe to be a dream life misconception is that things will happen by themselves. As though you’ll be going about your usual routine and someone will appear ready to change your life. Sure that’s what happened to Cinderella but that doesn’t mean it’ll happen to you too.

When life comes together

How does it feel when you realise you’re living your dreams.

I’d consider myself to be a bit of a dreamer. I daydream, I can be idealistic and I love stories.

I daydream/visualise about my future on a regular basis sometimes intentionally and sometimes on accident.

I often find that months or years later that thing I was daydreaming about is part of my reality.

And it can something like the kind of person I want to meet or an aspect of my lifestyle.

It fascinates me that you can have days where you’re happily going through life and then you suddenly realise that last year you’d been dreaming about being where you are right now.

When life comes together

When our dreams are greater than our present circumstances it can be easy to feel like it’s us against life as though we’re pushing back.

You might think you’re the only one with big dreams as everyone else just seems to get on with things without dragging their heels.

But if you take the time to speak to the people around you, you might find that they have dreams too. Talking to the right people will always be helpful and realising you’re not alone is a bonus.

Finding out that someone else in a similar position to you has dreams too is something you might not have even considered. That’s just one of many reasons to not make assumptions.

Dream a new dream

Remaining open to the uncertainty of life has many benefits but a reduction in stress and anxiety are definitely ones worth making a note of.

And so when life doesn’t go to plan it’s okay to embrace uncertainty and dream a new dream. It’s much easier to go with the flow of life than to resist it as they say what you resist persists and I agree.

You might find yourself straying far from where think you want to be or where you thought you’d end up but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad place to be.

Different, unexpected or surprising aren’t equal to bad.

Letting go of an old dream

What do you do when you wake up one morning and realise that the life you wanted is no longer something you want to pursue?

How do you let go of an old dream?

I’m still figuring out the answers to these questions so let me know if you have any insight. What I’ve discovered so far though is that it’s okay to change your mind and ten years spent on a path you no longer what to pursue isn’t wasted time. Especially if it gave you the chance to learn, develop and realise that you want something else.

Life is all about contrast and sometimes we have to experience something that we don’t want to figure out what we do want.

Too often we think that changing our minds about what we want means starting over when in reality you never go back to the start line you just continue to develop.

Perhaps, the challenge in letting go of the old is in knowing that you’ll have to re-envision your life plans and commit to something new which is both scary and exciting but more often than not worth it.

Tending to the dream

An important step in achieving the dream life is tending to it. Its like with gardening, you need to do more than just plant seeds. You need to space them the right distance apart, water them or maybe give them something to grow against.

A dream you do nothing with is likely to just remain a dream. But I think by tending to it you’re more likely to actually get it in some way or another.

And maybe that’s a scary thought, actually attaining what you truly want. But what do you have to lose, worst case scenario you end up back where you started with the knowledge that you took a risk to make it happen because you were willing to try.

There’s a quote about having to leave things behind in order to move forward that I quite like because it’s something I believe. Yet growing up and still sometimes now, I find myself caught between where I am and where I want to be.

I’ll blame that on the fact that I was born a dreamer

It’s easy to get caught up in routines, work, family, friends, romance and expectations even when we know that there is something different or something more that is available to us.

And sometimes it’s the newness of change that we fear because there’s comfort in familiarity that has nothing to do with how good or bad a situation is.

So we stay stagnant and stick with what we know. But that part of you that knows more is out there grows hungry and you end up feeling unfulfilled with your current life.

Sometimes despite getting to this point you still feel unable to move forward.

Something has to give.

Somehow you start to let go and slowly but surely you start to move into the life that you’ve always wanted to live.

The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Dream life and self-belief

If you could plan a day in your dream life what would it include and how much does it differ from how you currently live.

Use it as a journal prompt or just something to day dream about. I’ve been thinking a lot about my dream life recently and there are a few things that I plan to do over the next 6 to 9 months to really get things rolling.

One of my most limiting qualities is that I’m a creature of comfort, I’m not as much of a go-getter as I’d like to be which is why my life is much less than it could be.

But I’m also an optimist and a dreamer, I hold the belief that my dream life is possible.

Anyway enough about me, the point I wanted to make today is that the life you dream about is feasible.

Perhaps I say that because my own dream life is so simple. A few things that are part of my dream life are writing, being by the coast or countryside and making things with my hands whether that is textile art or i decide to take up carpentry I have no idea.

People often talk as though they are stuck in a miserable life and pretty much say that there’s no way to do what they really want or even just do something they like a little more. Henry ford would say they’re right and I’d agree with him.

As much as sometimes many of us would rather not admit, much of a persons ability to achieve things is a mindset thing and there are a lot of us out their who lack the Self belief to make things happen.
